Five Minute Friday: Change

I’m the proverbial old dog.

I don’t like new tricks.

I resist change…and I like it that way…

...except I’m reminded that I need to be changing

Every. Day.

Psalm 51:10  “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Isaiah 64:8  “But now, O Lord, Thou art our Father, We are the clay, and Thou our potter; And all of us are the work of Thy hand.”

Not only do I need to be constantly desiring change, I need to allow the change to happen so that I can become more like my Father in heaven…

…who does not change.

Hebrews 13:8  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.”

  1. You chose beautiful scriptures to illustrate the need to be open to change. Love how you pointed out that God doesn't change.

  2. Those who are trusting Jesus Christ as Savior have a wonderful promise of an incredible future change:

    1 Corinthians 15:52-54
    New King James Version (NKJV)

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

What an amazing miracle to look forward to!

  3. When I was in high school I attended a Christian youth summer camp on the shores of Newman Lake, Washington. The theme for the entire week was the biblical truth of sanctification--that is, the process of being set apart and changed into the likeness of Jesus Christ in our attitudes and actions. Our speaker asked us to memorize II Corinthians 3:18 and even make it our life's verse. Every day time was set aside in the schedule for us to find a quiet place and sit under a tree to simply meditate on this verse for 15 minutes.

I must say that now, many years later, this verse is even more meaningful to me; and I can look back and see how profoundly the truth of it has impacted my life. As you can see, it is all about spiritual change:

    2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
